Docking of ferries without losing energy

Projects -

Traditional docking of ferries requires vast amounts of fuel because the main propellers are used for holding the ship whilst docking. TEB Engineering has developed a system which is safe to use even in windy conditions, whilst the main propellers can be running idle.

A case has been investigated regarding a ferry to one of the islands in Holland which runs twice each hour. To make sure that the ferry is kept steady to the dock, the main propellers are used to supply a steady force. Each year more than 800.000 litres of fuel is wasted,  which leads to 2200 tons of CO2 emission.
Alternatively, permanent magnets can be used to hold the ship steady. TEB Engineering has engineered a basic solution in which these magnets can be used and easily operated. Traditional means imply dangers which can be seen at this video. Permanent magnets are proven technology and are safe to use!
